Selection Sixteen is a 1999 album by Squarepusher, released on Warp Records. According to the CD, the cover-art is from a film called Acid Trayners 2, which seems to be different pictures of an oscilloscope. Throughout the record the bass, hooked to an audio/midi converter, played an important part in the composition of synth and drum parts. Squarepusher is the performing pseudonym of Tom Jenkinson, an English electronic music artist signed to Warp Records. He specialises in the electronic music genres of drum and bass and acid, with a significant jazz and musique concrète influence.

He is generally considered one of the major jazz guitarists, emerging after such seminal figures as Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian and influencing countless others, including Pat Martino, George Benson, Emily Remler, Kenny Burrell and Pat Metheny. Montgomery was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He came from a musical family, his brothers, Monk (string bass and electric bass) and Buddy (vibraphone and piano), were jazz performers. The brothers released a number of albums together as the Montgomery Brothers. Although he was not skilled at reading music, he could learn complex melodies and riffs by ear. Montgomery started learning guitar relatively late, at the age of 19, by listening to and learning the recordings of his idol, guitarist Charlie Christian.

Sagmeister gained first prominence when he performed in 1975 at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival. The following year he founded the Michael Sagmeister Trio with Udo Kistner (playing bass) and Michael Kuettner on drums which became his most successful ensemble. In the 1980s he toured as a supporting act with the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble by which he became well known in the jazz scene. From 1993 to 1997 Sagmeister was a lecturer at Berklee College of Music in Boston and since 1999 he is a tenured professor at the College for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt. Sagmeister published three primers about Jazz guitar. Sagmeisters Jazz Gitarre became a standard reference in the German-speaking world.
