Sneaky Feelings

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Sneaky Feelings were a 1980s New Zealand pop/rock band, led by Matthew Bannister, who recorded on the Flying Nun label. Initially recording with the line-up of Bannister (guitar), David Pine (guitar), Kat Tyrie (bass) and Martin Durrant (drums), Tyrie was replaced by John Kelcher early in the band's career. Durrant left shortly before the band's demise, and was replaced by Ross Burge. Sneaky Feelings were unusual among Dunedin Sound bands in that all four members of the band sang and several of the members wrote material. The jangle sound of the guitars and layered vocals drew their influence from the music of the Byrds and the Beatles, and comparisons can be made with some of California's Paisley Underground bands.

“The Long Ryders were formed in 1982 by young American musicians influenced by Gram Parsons, C&W, The Byrds, and the punk scene found in their hometown of Los Angeles. The Long Ryders were an anecdoteto formula stadium rock and wimpy synth-pop.”The founders of alt-country, The Long Ryders, release their first new album in over thirty years on February 15 2019 when “Psychedelic Country Soul “hits the airwaves and enters the shops. Featuring the classic line-up of Sid Griffin, Stephen McCarthy, Tom Stevens and Greg Sowders, it makes the day after Valentine’s Day as much a romantic celebration. The stunning new album follows hot on the heels of the deluxe reissue treatment given to two classic Long Ryders long players, “State of Our Union” and “Two-Fisted Tales”.The band featured Sid Griffin on guitar, autoharp, and harmonica, Stephen McCarthy on guitar, steel guitar, mandolin, and banjo, Tom Stevens, bass, and Greg Sowders, playing drums and percussion. With a sound reminiscent of the Buffalo Springfield and The Flying Burrito Brothers, but with a harder edge, they anticipated the alternative country music of the 1990s by a decade.Featuring eleven new Long Ryders compositions and a tribute cover of the late great Tom Petty’s song ‘Walls’, this is a Long Ryders for the 21st century, kicking off with the anthemic ‘Greenville’, a track which proves the band haven’t lost any of that magic guitar interplay. ‘Molly Somebody’ is an eclectic pop tune that doesn’t neglect any of their country and rock sensibilities, while the likes of ‘What the Eagle Sees’ reflects the energy of early punk and power pop that so informed them in the early days. You can still hear their personal connection with the music of the 1960s’, but as ever The Long Ryders aren’t a band who live in the past. Album closer ‘Psychedelic Country Soul’ is the greatest testament to that, performed like the previous 11 songs, with precision and fire, the guitars weave and harmonicas build and ebb, the song spreading like wildfire. The Long Ryders have always been celebrated for what they have to say as much as the music they make. With “Psychedelic Country Soul” their message delivered with 12 strings and never-ending harmonies has never been clearer. This is a Long Ryders album which stands up with their classic albums such as “Native Sons” and their unforgettable single ‘Looking For Lewis And Clark’. “Psychedelic Country Soul” will certainly sit on many Best Of lists at the end of the year. But you can note its worthiness when you hear it February 15, 2019. It is that good.1. GREENVILLE2. LET IT FLY3. MOLLY SOMEBODY4. ALL ABOARD5. MAKE IT REAL6. IF YOU WANT TO SEE ME CRY7. A bittersweet novel about friendship, being a teenager, and the redemption to be found in rock music. Chris is learning guitar at school in an attempt to emulate his rock god hero, Joe Satriani, if only he can get the hang of 'Streets of London' first. But there's another boy in his guitar class who's miles ahead of everybody. His name is Ben. It's only a matter of time before Chris and Ben form a band. With easy-going Jase on drums and the ginger, bespectacled and bad-tempered Thomas on bass, Animal Magnets are only lacking a frontman. And although they hate to admit it, there is only one boy for the job. Flying Saucer Rock & Roll follows the boys through their teenage years and out the other side into the disappointment of adult life. It is a beautifully observed novel about guitar riffs, friendship and faded dreams.Flying Saucer Rock & Roll 'A wry, sometimes painful, tale of adolescence... well evoked.' Sunday Herald 'Blandford captures the awkwardness of youth with a deft realism... a witty and sometimes poignant coming-of-age tale.' The List

'An engaging journey into the wild and wonderful world of drumming.”—CLEM BURKE, Blondie To have a great band you need a great drummer. For the first time, Tony Barrell shines a long-overdue spotlight on these musicians, offering an exciting look into their world, their art, and their personalities. In Born to Drum, he interviews some of the most famous, revered, and influential drummers of our time—including Chad Smith, Ginger Baker, Clem Burke, Sheila E., Phil Collins, Nick Mason, Patty Schemel, Butch Vig, and Omar Hakim—who share astonishing truths about their work and lives. He investigates the stories of late, great drummers such as Keith Moon and John Bonham, analyzes many of the greatest drum tracks ever recorded, and introduces us to the world's fastest and loudest drummers, as well as the first musician to pilot a 'flying drum kit” onstage. Filled with fascinating insights into the trade and little-known details about the greats, Born to Drum elevates drummers and their achievements to their rightful place in music lore and pop culture. 'As Born to Drum proves, there's a lot more to be told about drums and drumming than the Rolls-Royce in the swimming pool and the pyro beneath the bass drum.”—NICK MASON, Pink Floyd 'Everyone should read this book—especially if you're not a drummer. A great insight into a great sport.”—Joey Kramer, Aerosmith
