Mehmet Ruhi Su (1912 September 20, 1985) was a Turkish bass baritone opera and folk singer and saz virtuoso. Ruhi Su was born 1912 in Van, Turkey, child of a simple official father and houswife mother. He later expressed his situation: "He is one of the children desolated by the World War I." After he lost his parents in very early age, he was taken from Van to Adana given to a poor family without child. He started playing violin at the age of ten. In 1936 he graduated from the Teacher''s School of Music and in 1942 from the Opera Department of State Conservatory in Ankara. The following ten years, he performed at the State Opera in Ankara as a celebrated bass baritone, appearing in operas such as Madame Butterfly, Fidelio, Tosca and Rigoletto. During his contemporary music education, he also studied Turkish folk music and consequently made regular radio programs, playing saz and singing folk songs, while he worked at the opera.

XIT is a Native American rock band that released two albums in the 1970s on the Motown label, and regrouped in the 1990s as a new and different group under Tom Bee. They performed a 30th anniversary reunion concert and released a DVD, XIT: Without Reservation, in 2002. XIT was originally based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Members include founder and Native American Music Award winner Tom Bee, (writer of lyrics on Plight of the Redman). The original group were A. Rodney Slatford (b. 18 July 1944) is an English contemporary double bass player and teacher (especially of young children). He was the principal bass player of the Midland Sinfonia, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, and English Chamber Orchestra, a founder of the Nash Ensemble, and has been a principal player in other early music ensembles. He is also a publisher of sheet music for double bass. He had studied with Adrian Beers and wrote his obituary in The Independent.
G-funk, or Gangsta-Funk, is a sub-genre of hip hop music that emerged from West Coast gangsta rap in the early 1990s.
