Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Overdubbing (the process of making an overdub, or overdubs) is a technique used by recording studios to add a supplementary recorded sound to a previously recorded performance. Tracking (or "laying the basic tracks") of the rhythm section (usually including drums) to a song, then following with overdubs (solo instruments, such as keyboards or guitar, then finally vocals), has been the standard technique for recording popular music since the early 1960s. Overdubs can be made for a variety of reasons. One of the most obvious is for convenience, for example, if a bass guitarist is temporarily unavailable, the recording can be made and the bass track added later.

Musical ensemble

Musical ensemble is a group of two or more musicians who perform instrumental or vocal music. In each musical style different norms have developed for the sizes and composition of different ensembles, and for the repertoire of songs or musical works that these ensembles perform. In classical music, trios or quartets either blend the sounds of instrument families (e.g., piano, strings, and winds) or group together instruments from the same instrument family, such as string ensembles or wind ensembles. In jazz ensembles, the instruments typically include wind instruments (one or more saxophones, trumpets, etc.) one or two chordal "comping" instruments (electric guitar, piano, or organ), a bass instrument (electric bass guitar or double bass), and a drummer or percussionist. In rock ensembles, usually called rock bands, there are usually guitars and keyboards (piano, electric piano, Hammond organ and synthesizers) and a rhythm section made up of a bass guitar and drum kit.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In music, an octet is a musical ensemble consisting of eight instruments or voices, or a musical composition written for such an ensemble. Octets in classical music are one of the largest groupings of chamber music. They tend to be scored in one of the following arrangements: String Octet - This arrangement is made up entirely of strings. Felix Mendelssohn's Octet Op. 20 is an example, as is the string octet by Dmitri Shostakovich. o Double quartet - Double quartets are made up of two string quartets, often arranged antiphonally. Louis Spohr composed such octets, as did George Enescu. Wind Octet - Usually scored for 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns, and 2 bassoons, Mozart and Beethoven composed in this genre, also known as Harmonie. Igor Stravinsky's wind octet is in an unusual grouping of flute, clarinet, two bassoons, two trumpets, and two trombones. Wind and String Octet - a combination of forces, popularized by Franz Schubert (whose Octet is for clarinet, bassoon, horn, violins, viola, cello, and double bass).

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women was a three-woman blues musical ensemble in the Washington, D.C. area. It was founded in 1987 by Ann Rabson, Gaye Adegbalola and Earlene Lewis. Lewis separated from the band in 1992 and was replaced by Andra Faye. The group then featured Rabson on piano, vocals and guitar, Adegbalola on vocals and guitar, and Faye on vocals, bass, mandolin, violin and guitar. Saffire's music is a combination of serious blues songs and comedic novelty songs. They played original songs (such as "Do Your Duty", "You Got to Know Him" and "Tain't Nobody's Business"), and well as the music of blueswomen who have inspired them, such as Big Mama Thornton, Ida Cox and Koko Taylor. Their music, both comedic and serious, tends to deal with feminist themes, which has made them popular outside of traditional blues circles.
